Woman, man arrested after alleged crime spree getaway attempt in Gladstone

A woman has been arrested after making a dramatic attempt to jump into a moving car while allegedly trying to escape police in central Queensland.

The 30-year-old woman was wanted on an arrest warrant for a number of alleged property crimes throughout the region when she was spotted by a police officer on patrol on the Dawson Hwy at Gladstone about 7.15pm on Wednesday.

The Maryborough woman was confronted by the officer and ran, running along the highway before attempted to jump into a moving car.

Police body-worn shows the officer running along oncoming traffic as they chased the woman, yelling at her to “get off the road”.

She was restrained and removed from the car before being taken into custody a short time later.

The woman was charged with 20 offences, including unauthorised use of a motor vehicle and assaulting a police officer.

She appeared in Gladstone Magistrates Court on Thursday and was remanded in custody to reappear on August 3.

A man, also allegedly involved in the thefts, was found after investigations led police to a makeshift campsite in thick bushland where stolen property was allegedly found.

He was arrested and charged with 14 offences, including enter and commit and stealing.

The man was remanded in custody to reappear in Gladstone Magistrates Court on August 3.
