Authorities say the 36-year-old woman was armed with a handgun after a police pursuit in Bath.
New Hampshire authorities are investigating after a 36-year-old woman was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Bath on Thursday night.
Jeanne A. Seto was taken to a local hospital after suffering gunshot wounds and was later pronounced dead, according to Attorney General John M. Formella. The shooting happened following a police pursuit that ended with officers finding her armed with a handgun, Formella’s office said.
Authorities say that state and local police responded to a report that Seto was armed and driving to confront a family member with whom she had a dispute. Officers located Seto’s vehicle on Route 112 at about 7 p.m., heading toward Bath.
Investigators say Seto didn’t comply with commands to stop, and the pursuit ended after police deployed a spike strip just south of the intersection of Route 112 and Route 302.
When officers approached the vehicle, they allegedly found Seto armed with a handgun, authorities said.
“The circumstances of who fired and when are still under active investigation,” Formella’s office said in a press release.
An autopsy conducted by the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that Seto died of multiple gunshot wounds. The manner of death was ruled a homicide.
No police officers were injured in the incident.
Investigators are reviewing footage from officers’ body-worn cameras, the AG’s office said. Additional information isn’t expected until after the officers are formally interviewed, which is expected to take place in the coming weeks.
