The three children involved had “unknown injuries,” State Police said, while an adult suffered serious injuries in the crash.

A woman was killed and four people were injured in a crash on a highway in Andover Wednesday night, police said.

State Police troopers responded to a call about a car on fire on I-495 North before Route 93 in Andover at around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, the agency said in a statement.

Troopers found a minivan carrying two adults and three children. One of the adults, a 25-year-old woman from Lawrence who was a passenger in the minivan, was pronounced dead at the scene, State Police said. The other adult, the driver, was hospitalized with serious injuries, while the three children were also taken to a hospital with “unknown injuries,” the agency said.

The crash involved another car, a sedan, the driver of which did not appear to be injured, State Police said.

Video from the scene by WCVB show the remnants of the minivan, which appeared to have been completely engulfed in flames, and the sedan, which had serious damage to its rear bumper and trunk.

The crash is still under investigation, according to State Police.
