The Philadelphia Eagles entered the closing stretch of the preseason with crucial roster decisions looming. This 53-man roster projection evaluates six players fighting to secure their future before the team makes its final cuts.
The Birds close their exhibition slate tonight against the Cincinnati Bengals at Lincoln Financial Field. Following matchups against the Baltimore Ravens and New England Patriots, the coaching staff now has a much clearer picture of the roster, leaving those on the roster bubble with one last opportunity to make their case before the mandatory deadline.
While top performers already solidified their status, a handful of names still have one final opportunity to change the conversation. As the roster squeeze approaches, here is a realistic look at where six players currently stand in the race for a spot on the 53-man roster.
✅ Ty Robinson
He maximized every opportunity throughout camp and steadily tilted the roster battle in his favor.
The second-year defensive tackle opened the preseason with a sack against Baltimore, then delivered an even more disruptive performance against New England. He finished with two sacks, three quarterback hits, and three tackles for loss, consistently collapsing the pocket and creating problems behind the line of scrimmage.
With Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, and Moro Ojomo already established ahead of him, the path to meaningful snaps looked difficult. Robinson embraced the challenge of earning a place in the rotation, and his preseason production gave the coaching staff a compelling reason to find room for him.

Verdict: IN. The coaching staff places a premium on protecting depth in the trenches, especially with interior defenders capable of collapsing the pocket. Losing an ascending lineman after this level of preseason production would be difficult to justify, making his place on the final roster all but secure.
✅ Markel Bell
He justified the franchise’s investment in his development from the moment camp opened.
The third-round rookie impressed the coaching staff throughout the summer, pairing an imposing frame with impressive physicality and considerable upside during preseason action. He also earned valuable first-team reps at right tackle during the joint practices against New England, an important test against higher-level competition.
With Lane Johnson approaching the final years of his career, developing a reliable successor became a major priority for the future of the offensive line. Bell’s early progress gave Philadelphia a promising developmental option behind one of the best right tackles of his generation.
Verdict: IN. The front office would have little reason to risk exposing a talent of this caliber to waivers, where another team could quickly claim him. His long-term upside as a future starting right tackle makes his place on the final roster virtually guaranteed.
✅ Darius Cooper
He responded with authority to the pressure of fighting for a spot on the 53-man roster for the second consecutive year.
After a quiet preseason opener against Baltimore, the receiver broke out against New England with three catches for 44 yards, finishing as the most productive wideout of the game.
That ability to deliver when his roster spot is on the line already helped him earn a spot last season as an undrafted rookie. Now, he is trying to repeat the feat in a crowded receiver room where every opportunity carries extra weight.
Verdict: LEANING IN. The coaching staff values his familiarity with the system and his reliability when the pressure rises. The competition remains fierce, but another productive showing against Cincinnati could close the debate and secure his place in the offense.
🤔 Carson Steele
This 53-man roster projection faces its toughest call in an overcrowded Eagles backfield.
The rookie delivered one of the most memorable performances of the summer against New England, piling up 117 total yards, including six catches for 84 yards, and adding a touchdown.
His ability to contribute as a runner, receiver, and pass protector gave the coaching staff plenty to consider. The problem is not production, but opportunity: Philadelphia has very little room left on the final roster.
Saquon Barkley and Tank Bigsby sit atop the rotation, while Will Shipley strengthened his case with an excellent preseason and appears firmly positioned to stay.
Verdict: BUBBLE. The talent justifies serious consideration, but the roster math works against him. Keeping four running backs on the 53-man roster could weaken depth elsewhere, a strategic tradeoff the front office may prefer to avoid by attempting to bring him back on the practice squad after final cuts.
🤔 Andy Dalton
The battle for the backup quarterback job developed into one of Philadelphia’s most intriguing roster decisions of the summer.
The veteran started each of the first two preseason games but struggled to generate momentum, completing just six of 16 passes for 64 yards.
Tanner McKee strengthened his case against New England with a sharp performance, throwing for 173 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions.
With Jalen Hurts firmly entrenched as the starter and rookie Cole Payton still in development, the front office now faces a difficult choice between experience and the quarterback who produced the stronger preseason tape.
Verdict: BUBBLE. Experience at backup quarterback still carries weight inside the building, but committing veteran-level money while a younger, cheaper option continues to push for the job becomes increasingly difficult to justify.
❌ Mac McWilliams
He enters the final stretch of the preseason needing a clean, mistake-free performance.
The second-year cornerback led the team with 10 tackles against Baltimore, but a holding penalty in coverage took some shine off that production. His situation became even more complicated against New England, when he entered the medical tent early and did not return.
In a crowded and talented secondary, availability and assignment discipline can decide the final roster spots. McWilliamsnow has little margin for error as he tries to separate himself from the rest of the competition.
Verdict: LEANING OUT. There is an unwritten rule in the NFL: a player’s best ability is availability. Entering the final week banged up and with discipline issues already on tape puts McWilliams in a difficult position heading into the finale.
Final Thoughts on the Eagles 53-Man Roster Projection
August results rarely determine what a team will become once September arrives, but for players living on the roster bubble, every snap can define what comes next.
The summer strengthened the cases of Ty Robinson and Markel Bell. Darius Cooper pushed himself back into the conversation, Carson Steele created a difficult numbers game in the backfield, and the battle for the backup quarterback job only grew tighter.
Tonight’s matchup against Cincinnati offers one final stage to influence the coaching staff. Once the final whistle sounds, Howie Roseman and Nick Sirianni will turn their attention toward shaping the 53-man roster.
Until then, this Eagles 53-man roster projection remains fluid. One breakout performance under the lights could still reshape the bottom of the depth chart and decide who survives final cuts.
