A trip to Robe with the family usually means long beach days, sandy feet and plenty of hungry mouths to feed.

Luckily, the Limestone Coast town has plenty of options that work just as well for little diners as they do for parents, whether you need an easy breakfast before hitting the beach, somewhere relaxed for lunch or a dinner where nobody will complain about the menu.

We’ve checked that the venues below are currently operating, but Robe is a seasonal holiday town, so opening hours can change throughout the year. It’s always worth checking directly before heading out, particularly outside school holidays.

Robe Store by Mahalia Coffee

If having a playground within sight of your table sounds like a holiday win, Mahalia Coffee is one of the easiest family stops in town.

The Robe Store combines a café and coffee roastery with indoor and outdoor seating, while its shady courtyard overlooks a kids’ playground. Food covers light breakfasts, homemade cakes and lunch, making it particularly handy when adults want proper coffee while younger travellers have somewhere to burn off some energy. Its own website currently lists it as open seven days from 8:30am to 4pm, although it closes for some public holidays.

Robe Hotel

For a classic pub meal with plenty of choices, Robe Hotel is an easy option just metres from the coast.

The kitchen serves pub favourites and local seafood, and the venue specifically confirms children are welcome when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. There’s also a beer garden, and every Sunday children aged 12 and under can currently eat free with the purchase of an adult main, excluding public holidays.

The hotel currently opens daily, with lunch served from noon and dinner from 5pm.

Caledonian Inn

Another solid pub option is the historic Caledonian Inn, better known around town as the Cally.

Its current kids’ menu includes options such as fish and chips, popcorn chicken and kids’ pasta, while adults can choose from schnitzels, burgers, local seafood and other pub favourites. Families can eat in the bistro, back bar or beer garden, and the venue is currently open daily from 11am until late.

Its position on Victoria Street also means Town Beach is only a short stroll away — useful if dinner needs to be followed by one last run along the sand.

Drift Cafe

For breakfast or lunch, Drift @ Robe (pictured at top) has plenty of space for families to spread out.

There’s indoor dining, a covered deck and picnic tables out on the grass, with an all-day brunch and lunch offering. Robe’s official tourism site currently lists Drift among the town’s operating cafés, while current business information has it trading seven days from 7:30am.

The grassy outdoor area makes this one particularly appealing when sitting quietly at a café table isn’t high on the kids’ holiday agenda.

There’s also outdoor seating, which is handy when you’ve arrived with a pram, beach bags and half the contents of the car.

Robe Seafood & Takeaway

Sometimes the easiest family dinner is fish and chips by the water, and Robe Seafood & Takeaway has been feeding Robe visitors exactly that.

The family-owned takeaway uses seafood caught from waters off Robe and serves everything from fish and chips to hamburgers, hot dogs and yiros. Importantly for families, dedicated kids’ packs are also available. The South Australian tourism website currently lists the venue as family friendly, with takeaway and outdoor dining available.
