Vinnie Gibaldi has been crowned the latest MasterChef Australia champion, bringing a season that generated plenty of discussion to an emotional finish.
After months of mystery boxes, pressure tests and high profile guest appearances, the 2026 season ended last night with Vinnie overcoming fellow finalist Petro Papathomas to secure the title, $250,000 in prize money and a place among the competition’s past winners.
Vinnie prevailed in the Grand Finale after recovering from an early setback in the mystery box challenge, reinventing his dish after overcooking his duck before taking a five point lead into the deciding pressure test.

Facing an intricate Chinese Afternoon Tea creation from acclaimed pastry chef Cherish Finden, he finished with 80 points to Petro’s 67 to claim the trophy, capping off a season in which he consistently impressed the judges with his technical ability and composure under pressure.
The result caps a season that attracted plenty of attention, from Meghan Markle’s widely publicised guest appearance, which delivered the show’s biggest audience since July 2023, to ongoing discussion among viewers about the format, challenges and finalists.
Applications for the show’s 19th season closed over the weekend, with filming expected to begin in November ahead of its anticipated return in 2027.
Speaking after his win, Vinnie said the experience had exceeded anything he imagined when he first entered the competition, describing the friendships and memories as just as meaningful as lifting the trophy.
“I don’t really have any words to be honest, I feel like that’s just insane!”
“I couldn’t have imagined it from the first day, but I am so, so grateful for absolutely everything that I have experienced here.”
