The United States has temporarily suspended operations at its Consulate General in Peshawar, effective March 2, citing security concerns and ongoing disruptions.
In an official notice, U.S. authorities informed citizens that the Peshawar consulate will remain closed until further notice. All routine and emergency consular services for U.S. citizens will now be handled by the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad.
The suspension comes amid heightened security conditions and protest activity in several parts of the country. U.S. government personnel across Pakistan have been directed to limit their movements as a precautionary measure.
While the Peshawar consulate has halted operations entirely, the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad continues to function and is providing consular assistance. However, authorities have not announced a timeline for the resumption of services in Peshawar.
U.S. citizens currently in Pakistan have been advised to monitor local media, avoid large gatherings, remain alert to their surroundings, and ensure their Smart Traveler Enrollment Program registration is up to date.
