A 21-year-old man in Uttar Pradesh’s Etawah district allegedly died by suicide after consuming poison following an argument with his mother, who later also took her own life upon discovering his body, police said on Friday.
According to officials, the man, identified as Vivek Kumar, consumed a poisonous substance after a dispute with his mother, Guddi Devi (55).
Police said Guddi Devi later found her son lying dead inside their house. Shocked and overcome with grief, she allegedly hanged herself using a saree.
Senior police officer Preeti Sengar confirmed the incident, saying police reached the spot after receiving information on Friday evening. “Both bodies have been sent for post-mortem after completing legal formalities,” she said.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
MADRASSA STUDENT FOUND HANGING INSIDE MOSQUE
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a 14-year-old madrassa student allegedly died by suicide after hanging himself from a ceiling fan inside a room of a mosque in Uttar Pradesh’s Sultanpur district on Friday evening, police said.
The deceased, identified as Rehan, was a Class 6 student at a nearby madrassa. According to local residents, he had gone to the mosque in the afternoon to offer Friday prayers and later returned home. He is said to have come back to the mosque after some time, where he allegedly took the extreme step inside one of the rooms.
The incident came to light around 4 pm when people arrived at the mosque for afternoon prayers and found the boy’s body hanging from the ceiling fan, triggering panic in the area. A large number of villagers gathered at the spot as the news spread.
Police reached the scene after being alerted and brought the body down with the help of locals. After completing inquest proceedings, the body was sent for post-mortem examination, officials said.
The mosque premises also house a madrassa located just opposite it, where Rehan was enrolled. Police said the madrassa was closed on Friday.
Police officer Hrithik Kapoor said the exact cause of death would be ascertained after the post-mortem report. Further legal proceedings are underway.
