A high-level college matchup coming to TD Garden? While Boston basketball fans might be disappointed in the short term over the Celtics’ playoff demise, there’s plenty to be excited about in the near future.
One of the more unexpected reasons for that might take shape in the form of a high-profile college basketball matchup that is reportedly in the works for TD Garden.
According to CBS Sports college basketball insider Jon Rothstein, Connecticut and Michigan men’s basketball are closing in on an agreement for a neutral site game at TD Garden on Nov. 6.
“UConn and Michigan are working to finalize an agreement to meet in a neutral site game on November 6th at TD Garden in Boston, according to multiple sources,” noted Rothstein on Wednesday evening.
The two teams have recent, high-profile history, having met in the 2026 NCAA Tournament National Championship Game in April (which Michigan won, 69-63).
Scores and schedules:
The Red Sox defeated the Tigers 4-0 on Wednesday to complete the three-game sweep. Boston returns home to face the Rays at Fenway Park this evening at 7:10 in the first game of a four-game series.
On Friday, the Fleet face the Charge in Ottawa at 7 p.m. The best-of-five series is tied 1-1.
Legacy FC face Gotham FC on Saturday in New Jersey at 6:30 p.m.
And the Revolution also play on Saturday, hosting the Philadelphia Union at 7:30 p.m.

On this day: In 2002, Allen Iverson (inexplicably wearing a Red Sox hat) simply wanted to know why he was being asked about practice.

Daily highlight: Speaking of Red Sox defense, here’s another one from Wednesday. Wilyer Abreu made a sliding catch in the second inning to rob a base hit.
