UAE judokas set for Dushanbe test

The UAE judo team will compete in three weight categories at the Dushanbe Grand Slam in Tajikistan this week.

The event runs from April 30 to May 3 under the supervision of the International Judo Federation.

The UAE squad includes Karim Abdel Latif, who will compete in the men’s under-73kg category, Amr Gad in the men’s under-81kg category, and Eliza Litif in the women’s under-78kg category.

The team are due to arrive in Dushanbe on Tuesday before the official draw takes place on Thursday by video link.

The preliminary rounds begin the following day at the Tennis Palace Hall in Dushanbe.

The UAE delegation will be led by Dr Nasser Al Tamimi, a member of the National Olympic Committee, vice president of the UAE Judo Federation, and treasurer of the International Judo Federation.

Coach Viktor Sektrov and the team’s support staff will also travel with the squad.

The Grand Slam will give the UAE team another chance to test itself against international opposition as the federation continues its competition programme for the national side.
