Twisha Sharma death case: CBI tells HC Giribala Singh left no stone unturned to malign actor’s character, seeks custodial interrogation

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday told the Madhya Pradesh High Court that custodial interrogation of former judge Giribala Singh was necessary in the Twisha Sharma death case, alleging that she had “left no stone unturned” to malign the 33-year-old actor-model’s character.

Opposing anticipatory bail for Singh, the agency also alleged dowry harassment, forced termination of pregnancy and attempts to tamper with evidence, while claiming that Twisha’s in-laws had failed to explain the injuries found on her body.

The CBI told the high court that Twisha Sharma had suffered wrist and elbow injuries, but no explanation had been submitted by her in-laws regarding how those injuries were caused. According to the agency, a medical query report made it clear that the injuries could not have occurred while the body was being removed from the ligature.

The submissions came days after questions were raised over injury marks mentioned in Twisha’s post-mortem report.

WHATSAPP CHATS, FORCED ABORTION CLAIMS

The agency further informed the court that WhatsApp chats recovered during the probe showed that Giribala Singh and Twisha’s husband Samarth Singh had doubted her character after she was found to be pregnant.

The CBI alleged that Twisha was subsequently forced to undergo an abortion after allegations were made that the child belonged to another person.

The agency also cited witness statements claiming that dowry was sought on more than one occasion, with allegations that the dowry given during the marriage was “not up to their standard”.

CBI ALLEGES EVIDENCE TAMPERING

The central agency also accused Giribala Singh of attempting to tamper with evidence by circulating a selective video clip on social media.

The CBI told the court that she had leaked a short, selective portion of a video recording online in an attempt to influence the narrative surrounding the case.

The agency argued that custodial interrogation was required as part of a wider probe into the allegations.

HC QUASHES GIRIBALA SINGH’S ANTICIPATORY BAIL

Later in the day, the Madhya Pradesh High Court quashed the anticipatory bail granted to Giribala Singh. In its 17-page order, vacation judge Devnarayan Mishra set aside the May 15 order passed by the 10th Additional Sessions Judge, Bhopal, which had granted anticipatory bail to Singh earlier.

“The anticipatory bail order dated May 15, 2026 passed by the 10th Additional Sessions Judge, Bhopal, is hereby quashed,” the court said while allowing pleas seeking cancellation of her bail.

Senior advocate Anurag Shrivastava, appearing for Twisha’s family, welcomed the order and said, “Finally, justice is done in the Twisha case.”

He added that since Giribala Singh had served in the judiciary for 36 years, she should “gracefully surrender before the CBI and cooperate with the investigating agency”.

SAMARTH SINGH SENT TO CBI CUSTODY

Earlier on Wednesday, a court in Bhopal sent Twisha Sharma’s husband Samarth Singh to CBI custody. Later, a CBI team took Samarth to Giribala Singh’s residence in the Katara Hills area as part of further investigation into the case.

The CBI had taken over the probe into the death of former model-actor Twisha Sharma on Monday. She was allegedly found hanging at her marital home in Bhopal on May 12.

The agency subsequently re-registered the FIR earlier filed by Madhya Pradesh Police, naming Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh as accused.
