The plan: End transient visits to ‘Sconset, the bucolic corner of eastern Nantucket, by investing in a place of one’s own.
The problem: Half the team suffers from apocalyptic snoring.
The solution: Two cottages sitting side-by-side.
Whether or not snoring is the real reason to invest in two island homes, 7 and 9 Park Lane offer the opportunity as they are being sold together.
In large part, the cottages are mirror images. Both are clad in classic Nantucket/Cape Cod style cedar shingling and sage trim, both are single story, both have entry doors flanked by large windows with flower boxes, both are 384 square feet, and both display plaques with the name of the homes. But each has a history of its own.
The cottage at 9 Park was once a primary means of contacting the mainland when it was operated as a telegraph house for summer visitors. Built in 1924, it subsequently was used as a tearoom, a yard shop, and a record store, according to the owners.

The second cottage, on the right when facing from Park Lane, is named “Right Bank.” One difference from its neighbor is a loft accessed by a ship’s ladder in the bedroom. It’s not an official bedroom and has a small square window to allow natural light.

Both homes have similar floorplans, but differences in the color palettes.
From the street, the front doors open directly into the 242-square-foot bedroom/living rooms with planked pine flooring and support beams crossing the white ceilings. On either side of the screen doors are two large casement windows with decorative divided light muntins. On the right exterior walls are double-hung windows and on the left is a pair of similarly sized windows.

A doorway leads to the other spaces. The 73-square-foot kitchens have electric stoves, white cabinets, and vinyl flooring. The sinks are located underneath a double-hung window and second entry doors are to the right.
The final room in each unit is the 39-square-foot full bathroom with a shower and a stacked washer/dryer. The Telegraph House vanity is white, and the Right Bank one is black.

The window trim in the Telegraph House is Nantucket Red, while the Right Bank trim is soft butter/off-white. The Right Bank has a modest cathedral-style ceiling.
Listing agent Lara Hanson, an eighth generation islander, said the property has a strong rental history with rates between $3,000 and $4,000 a week. Nantucket has its own set of short-term-rental rules posted on the town’s website.
The cottages can be occupied year-round, Hanson said. But she noted ‘Sconset goes into hibernation with businesses closing doors around September/October and then waiting until April to reopen.

“I can’t speak to what these cottages are like in the winter, but I can tell you the neighborhood that they’re in, ‘Sconset, is very peaceful in the wintertime,” she said. “It’s not a common year-round neighborhood.”
The cottages are on two lots but being sold as a single unit.
