Hosted by Professor Tim Harcourt, the new season will examine the push for a Northern Territory AFL team and whether the proposed 20th licence stacks up both on and off the field, with former league bosses, club executives and media heavyweights weighing into the conversation.
Ticker News says the returning series will again explore the economics behind Australia’s major sporting codes, looking beyond results and rivalries to unpack the money, politics and strategy driving the industry.

This season’s guest line up includes former AFL CEO Andrew Demetriou, former Essendon and Melbourne CEO Peter Jackson, AFL great Andrew McLeod and former Seven Melbourne Managing Director Lewis Martin.
Professor Tim Harcourt, host of Footynomics, said the proposed Northern Territory side raises bigger questions around trade, tourism and long term community development alongside football itself.
“The footy case is strong of course but I am interested in the economic case in terms of trade, tourism and development especially in remote communities.”
He added:
“Can footy drive economic progress and social improvement? In Footynomics, we are about to find out.”
Executive Producer Phil McMartin said Ticker’s expanding international reach continues to give the program a growing audience across Australia, Asia and the United States, while helping spotlight the wider influence sport has on business, politics and culture.
“Ticker ensures our important sporting stories get told through informative, entertaining and engaging content as what goes on off the field matters as much as what goes on, on the field.”
The series also promises to look beyond the AFL, exploring how major sporting codes compete for audiences, investment and international attention in an increasingly global sports market.
