More than a dozen spray decks in Boston and across Massachusetts opened Monday amid record-breaking temperatures this week, state officials announced.
A heat advisory was issued from 11 a.m. Tuesday through 8 p.m. Wednesday, as meteorologists forecast record highs in the low- to mid-90s for much of southern New England. Just before noon Tuesday, Boston beat the old record-high of 90 degrees, with the high temperature expected to reach around 94 degrees.
Managed by the Department of Conservation and Recreation, 14 of these spray decks, also known as splash pads, are now active in locations including Boston, Cambridge, Revere, Holyoke, and Belmont.
While DCR operates a total of 22 spray decks, the remaining sites are scheduled to open later in May and June.
Most facilities will remain open until Sept. 13, though some are slated for an earlier closure in late August.
Additionally, DCR’s ocean and inland beaches are set to open for Memorial Day weekend on Saturday. Dozens of public swimming pools across the state will open June 20.
