“Have you seen this little ham on the lam?”
The Edgartown Police Department on Martha’s Vineyard has put out an all-points bulletin for a “little ham on the lam.” Yes, there’s a pig loose on the island, which should make anyone who’s read “Lord of the Flies” at least a little nervous.
“Our officers are trying to help reunite this adventurous pig with its owner,” the department posted on Facebook. “If you’ve spotted a pig wandering around town, rooting through yards, or making new friends, please let us know!”
According to the post, the stray swine was last spotted around 10 a.m. Sunday on Chase Road, heading through yards toward Dark Woods Road. Police warn residents not to try to corral the animal, but instead to contact Edgartown Animal Control at 508-939-1782.
“Let’s get this little oinker home before someone starts building it a house of bricks,” warn the Edgartown Police. (And let’s hope it doesn’t know how to swim, or it might be halfway to Falmouth by now.)
