Drake Maye has certainly become a household name in New England. He’ll even have a Massachusetts town temporarily named after him on Super Bowl Sunday.
And fandom for the Patriots quarterback runs so deep that a meme account expressing its over-the-top and unconditional love for Maye has developed an impressive following as well.
That’s right, the renowned @DrakeMayeLover on Instagram.
The account was created in May 2024, shortly after the Pats selected Maye with the No. 3 overall pick in that year’s draft. It’s since posted more than 1,000 times and is closing in on 400,000 followers.
Here’s a sample:
The account also has its own merch dedicated to Maye.
In a video posted to the Patriots’ official account, Maye himself said he was aware of the account, and he read some Drake Maye Lover tweets, like, “If you’re ever sad, just remember Drake Maye exists.”
Unlike Maye though, nobody seems to know who Drake Maye Lover is.
The account did not respond to several requests for an interview.
In a recent interview with ESPN, the account owner said he would reveal his identity if he gets a photo with Maye.
“I’ve been pretty consistent that if I ever meet Drake Maye and get a picture with him, I think that would be the right time to do it,” the account owner said, his identity shrouded and his voice altered.
As for the “end goal”?
“I don’t think there really is an end goal,” Drake Maye Lover told ESPN. “I think it’s just keep supporting Drake Maye, keep loving Drake Maye.”
