The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam on Thursday said Tamil Nadu’s post-settlement GST revenue had risen by 16.1 per cent, and accused the opposition DMK of running a “half-baked propaganda” campaign over the state’s revenue figures. The party said the DMK was using incomplete numbers to mislead the public.
In a statement posted on X, the TVK IT Wing said a recent clarification from the state government had exposed what it called the DMK’s false claim of a 5 per cent fall in GST revenue. It said those trying to project an economic slowdown and administrative failure were highlighting only the gross GST figures and ignoring the full financial picture.
“The official data has delivered a sharp blow to those who tried to deceive the public by showing only the Gross GST figures,” the TVK IT Wing said. “The Finance Secretary of Tamil Nadu himself has now clarified that the actual post-settlement GST revenue accruing to Tamil Nadu has risen by 16.1 per cent,” it added.
Explaining its stand, the party said that in manufacturing and distribution hubs such as Tamil Nadu, factors like Integrated GST settlements have a major effect on gross GST numbers. It said post-settlement GST data was the correct measure to assess the state’s actual fiscal position.
The TVK also accused the DMK of carrying out a misinformation campaign on Tamil Nadu’s GST collection figures for political reasons. “The true motive of those making noise out of political animosity has been thoroughly exposed. False propaganda can never defeat the truth,” the post said.
In sum, the TVK maintained that Tamil Nadu’s post-settlement GST revenue had gone up by 16.1 per cent and said the controversy arose because the opposition focused only on gross GST figures instead of the complete revenue picture.
