Sydney FC sign midfielder Amy Chessari on two-year deal

Sydney FC have bolstered their midfield ahead of the 2026/27 Ninja A-League season after signing midfielder Amy Chessari on a two-year deal.

The 22-year-old joins the Sky Blues after making 65 Ninja A-League appearances for rivals Western Sydney Wanderers, where she spent the opening four seasons of her professional career.

A tenacious central midfielder, Chessari has established herself as a consistent performer during the course of her Ninja A-League career and will add steel to what will be a new-look Sydney FC midfielder next season.

“I’m really excited to be joining Sydney FC and taking on a new challenge,” Chessari said.

“I have some great memories from my four years at the Wanderers after making my debut there, and I’m grateful for everything the club did for me, but this felt like the right time to challenge myself in a new environment.

“Sydney FC has such a proud history of success and I’m looking forward to working with James, getting to know my new team-mates and doing everything I can to help the club compete for trophies.”

Sydney FC head coach James Slaveski believes Chessari’s arrival will add quality and experience to his midfield group.

“Amy is a player we’ve admired for a long time, not only because of her football ability but because she’s an exceptional character who will be a great fit for our environment,” he said.

“She’s a tenacious ball-winning midfielder with a really competitive mentality.

“She’s very comfortable in possession, has excellent mobility, covers the ground extremely well and her work rate is outstanding.

“For someone who’s still only 22, Amy also possesses strong leadership qualities.

“She already has significant A-League experience and we believe she’ll add real quality to our midfield while continuing to develop and grow with us over the next two seasons.”

Chessari’s arrival continues Sydney FC’s squad build for the 2026/27 Ninja A-League season as the Sky Blues target a return to finals football under Slaveski.
