ABOUT THE BOOK
A deliciously festive enemies-of-Christmas-to-lovers romance – perfect for fans of Sarah Morgan, Heidi Swain and Milly Johnson.
Event planner Natasha needs a distraction this December…
With her grown-up children on the other side of the world, Natasha is facing Christmas alone. So when England’s most famous Christmas town, Wellcombe, needs saving from a PR disaster, she packs her bags. She’ll spend the season working, not wallowing – mulled wine strictly optional.
Stained glass restorer Will is counting the days until it’s all over…
Since a terrible tragedy shattered his Christmas five years ago, Will wants nothing to do with twinkly lights, carol singers or festive cheer. But his biggest job this year is restoring a pair of ancient church windows in Wellcombe… at the heart of the very celebrations he’s spent years avoiding.
Natasha and Will have one thing in common: they’re both faking their way through the most wonderful time of year. Can gingerbread, mistletoe and a little festive magic thaw their frozen hearts? Or will it take a snowstorm to show them it’s never too late for a second chance at love?
MY REVIEW
It’s always nice to read a Christmas rom-com so close to the holidays, and misery loves company when two lonely people who hate Christmas are forced to spend it together.
Natasha Green, a divorced mom, becomes an empty nester dealing with hot flashes and spending Christmas alone for the first time. It reminds you how family relationships change over the years, and I love how she handles it with intelligence and grace. She has a creative flair that is magical and sure to revive the small town of Wellcombe.
Will Chapman is the grumpy local glass blower, grieving the loss of his parents. Seriously, this guy could put the Grinch to shame! He despises everything about Christmas, but there is more to him than meets the eye, especially when Natasha starts to chip away at his irritable facade.
Natasha and Will’s volatile relationship slowly unfolds as the holiday season begins. Their unexpected chemistry is genuine as they are forced to attend the fun events together, including the Christmas market, making a gingerbread house, the cozy night outside watching movies, and, not to mention, the hot hookup in the snowed-in cabin.
A book is only as good as its supporting characters, and the three feisty ladies who are Will’s matchmakers are an added treat, as well as Natasha’s new friendship with Lowenna.
Ms. Smith’s writing is playful and warm, with relatable characters who are dealing with real-life issues such as grief, perimenopause, and loneliness. Her story pulls you into the Christmas spirit.
If you enjoy a festive enemies-to-lovers trope with a bit of spice and everything nice, give this book a try.
Thank you to Ms. Smith for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
