The man tried to hit multiple people with a Mazda CX-5 before being shot by Stoughton police, prosecutors said.
Stoughton police shot a driver who allegedly tried to hit pedestrians with an SUV, officials said.
Around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Stoughton police responded to several reports of a possibly armed man outside a bar at 37 Monk St, according to the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office. It was then reported that the man got into a black Mazda and attempted to hit multiple pedestrians with the vehicle.
Officers who responded located the suspect, “who was ultimately shot by police during the encounter,” the district attorney’s office said.
Officers at the scene administered first aid to the man who was shot, prosecutors said. The man, who was later identified as Salaheddine Yagoub, 32, was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the DA’s office said.
The suspect left Public House, a dart bar located at 37 Monk St.
“At this point everybody knows there was a crazy incident last night on Monk Street. It was a Monk Street issue, not a Public House issue,” Public House said in a Facebook post Saturday. “That being said it is still an open investigation and respecting a loss of life, and the effects that may have had on people, especially the staff,” the restaurant closed for the day on Saturday.
State Police are investigating the incident, the DA’s office said.
