Museums play a crucial role in preserving a nation’s culture and traditions and passing them on to future generations, speakers observed during celebrations marking International Museum Day at the Baudhasree Archaeological Museum in Guntur on Monday.
The event was jointly organised by the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Department and the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) to create awareness among students about the importance of museums and cultural preservation.
Addressing the gathering, noted historian P. Srinadh Reddy explained the significance of museums in educating people, particularly students, about human civilisation — from tools used during the Stone Age to present-day technological advancements. He said museums serve as vital platforms to connect younger generations with history, heritage and scientific progress.
Mr. Srinadh Reddy also highlighted employment opportunities in the museum sector and encouraged students to explore careers related to heritage conservation, archaeology and museum management.
Students who participated in the programme expressed happiness over learning several unknown aspects of history and culture through the museum visit.
International Museum Day is observed every year on May 18 since a resolution adopted by the International Council of Museums in Moscow in 1977.
Among those present were INTACH Guntur Chapter convener Mudigonda Ravi Sankar, Guntur District Tourism Officer A. Sri Ramya, and several members and organisers.
