South Boston’s Lulu Green Leaving Time Out Market Over Dairy Dispute

A popular South Boston-based vegan restaurant is saying goodbye to Time Out Market.

Lulu Green, known for its plant-based menu and local roots, is closing both of its stalls at the Fenway food hall after a disagreement with new management, according to the Boston Globe.

The issue? Management reportedly asked Lulu Green to start offering dairy milk at its coffee stand in order to remain the market’s exclusive coffee vendor. The restaurant declined, choosing instead to leave rather than compromise its fully vegan concept.

Lulu Green had been operating two spots inside the market—Café Lulu, a coffee and bakery counter, and its main vegan eatery—but Wednesday marked their final day.

The restaurant first opened in South Boston in 2020 and quickly built a loyal following for its fresh, plant-based dishes. The Globe reports that the decision has sparked backlash from fans online, many expressing disappointment over losing one of the market’s only fully vegan options.

The good news? Lulu Green’s original Southie location isn’t going anywhere.
