Sonam Kapoor’s style needs no introduction. She’s an early adopter of trends, and a recent uptick in the number of Kapoor’s appearances wearing an anarkali suit is an indication of the style’s timely return. Fashion’s cyclical love for the equal parts snug and roomy silhouette is back this time around. For her cousin sister Anshula Kapoor’s pre-wedding prayer ritual, Kapoor first reached for a beige crushed silk anarkali from Itrh by designer Riddhi Bansal and celebrity stylist Mohit Rai (who also styled her for the occasion). For her wedding reception, Kapoor chose yet another anarkali style from Anamika Khanna in a similar colour palette.

The anarkali—a sheer ivory number with an expansive ghera—features gold dori-embroidery in the designer’s signature botany-inspired motifs such as foliage and floral vines, enriched with multiple layers of resham, zari, sequins, beads, crystals, and fine metallic detailing. The kurta’s sleeves gather at the wrist ever-so-slightly, drawing from the concept of churidar sleeves, while the plunging scoop neck adds a hint of modernity to the traditional silhouette. An ivory gossamer organza dupatta and churidar pants in a matching colour tie the look together. The anarkali, with a smorgasbord of embroidery techniques, took over 1,200 hours to come to life.
Kapoor often turns to jewellery from her mother’s personal collection to accessorise her going-out, occasion-worthy looks. For the reception, she turned to a single oversized polki choker lined with pearls and matching jhumkas. A diamond- and emerald-encrusted bejewelled brooch was used to hold the organza dupatta in place. For shoes, the actor chose comfortable juttis from footwear and accessories brand Fizzy Goblet while a 2023 Chanel bag from the actor’s wardrobe was the perfect finishing accoutrement.
2026 has seen more and more celebrities reach for anarkalis to make public appearances. For Anshula Kapoor’s wedding reception, Genelia Deshmukh wore a Mughal era-inspired anarkali from Delhi-based brand Divani. Not too long ago, producer and interior designer Gauri Khan wore a sage green embroidered creation from designer Anamika Khanna to attend a wedding. Actor Ananya Panday, too, turned toward the time-honoured silhouette from Torani during the promotions of her 2026 movie, Chand Mera Dil.
