Police say they found shoes in a bag near the skeletal remains in South Boston.

Bones recovered by police from a South Boston home were determined to be from an animal, authorities said.

Officers responded to 8 Glover Court shortly after 4:15 p.m. on Monday, where they uncovered skeletal bones after speaking with people working on the home, a Boston Police Department spokesperson said.

Police said they found shoes in a bag next to the skeletal remains.

Previously, BPD told multiple outlets that officials were looking to determine if the remains were from a human or animal.

The bones were taken to the state medical examiner’s office. Authorities determined they were animal bones, James Borghesani, a spokesperson for the Suffolk District Attorney’s office, confirmed Tuesday.

The investigation into the report remains active, police said.
