SIR: Over 99.32 lakh names struck off voter list in Karnataka

A whopping 99.32 lakh names have been struck off the electoral rolls of Karnataka following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), with the final list published on Tuesday (October 27). The rolls now include 4,55,00,011 voters, down from 5,54,32,314 before the exercise began.

The constituency-wise electoral rolls can be accessed on the Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer’s (CEO) website.

How to check name in final electoral roll

1. Go to CEO’s website – https://ceo.karnataka.gov.in/

2. Click on ‘Final Electoral Roll SIR 2026’

3. Select district, assembly constituency, and choose between Kannada and English and enter captcha

4. Enter part number (given on EPIC ID), and download the selected pdf

5. Check your name as per serial number

At the draft stage, the electorate had shrunk to 4.46 crore, with over 1.07 crore names deleted. The final roll has seen a net addition of 8.19 lakh names compared with the draft roll. However, the net additions have barely offset the deletions, knocking off nearly a crore from the pre-SIR electorate.

The net addition figures given by the CEO’s office does not indicate how many people who were wrongly excluded have managed to get back on the rolls. Nor does the figure provide a separate break-up of young or first-time voters added during the exercise, making it difficult to ascertain how many of those deleted have been reinstated.

“Karnataka has more than 6.87 crore total population (projected as on the proposed publication year 2026), as per the Population Projections for India and States 2011-2036 published by National Commission on Population Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and 4.54 crore (general electors) in the number of electors in the final roll,” CEO V. Anbu Kumar said, adding that the population-to-electors ratio should ideally be between 60 and 70, and that Karnataka’s ratio stood at 66.11.

However, Mr. Kumar did not explain how the gap of about 2.33 crore between the projected population and the electorate is accounted for, including how much of it comprises people below 18 years, non-voter residents and eligible voters who may have been left out.

The final electorate comprises over 2.25 crore male voters, 2.29 crore female voters and 2,841 third-gender voters. It includes over 6.83 lakh young voters aged 18-19 and more than 3.92 lakh voters aged above 85, besides 44,322 service electors.

The largest pool of electors, 1,02,57,680, belongs to the 30-39 age group, followed by 94,17,853 voters aged between 40 and 49.

Those who applied for inclusion through Form 6 within the claims and objections period, which ended on September 23, will have their names included in the final roll if their applications are accepted. Those who applied after the deadline will be included in supplementary lists, which will be published every quarter after the SIR.

Between June 16 and September 23, the last date for claims and objections, over 7.87 lakh Form 6 applications were received. Of these, 76,231 were rejected and 3,193 remained pending, while 7.08 lakh were accepted, as The Hindu previously reported. The CEO’s office said that over one lakh Form 6 applications submitted after the claims period were also processed to ensure maximum additions.

Till October 26, a total of 10.62 lakh Form 6 applications had been received (since June 16), of which 83,806 were rejected on grounds including applicants having applied unknowingly though already registered elsewhere, failure to submit documents and other reasons. The CEO’s office said instructions had been issued to all District Electoral Officers (DEOs) to reach out to applicants whose applications were rejected and include their names if they could be contacted and found eligible.
