Shanaya Kapoor’s latest look borrows the outline of a cocktail lehenga but is constructed as a gown. Designed by Bhawna Rao, the metallic silver piece creates the impression of a crystal-laden bustier and high-waisted skirt, though it is actually a single engineered silhouette in Italian tulle. The sleight of hand gives the look its charge: familiar enough for Indian occasionwear, finished with the gleam and vertical beadwork of red-carpet dressing.
The piece, from Rao’s latest Oblique collection, is inspired by what the designer describes as “the solace and peace that we experience after a mindful conversation with the self.” The silhouette showcases a bustier-inspired bodice and a subtle waist cutout that introduces a contemporary edge to the look before flowing into a floor-length skirt. “The look is designed over a period of two months and constructed in a way to elongate the frame and accentuate the waist.
