Severe weather warning issued for heavy rainfall across parts of South Australia

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Weather Warning for heavy rainfall across parts of South Australia, with flash flooding possible from Wednesday morning.

The warning covers people in the Lower Eyre Peninsula, Eastern Eyre Peninsula and parts of the West Coast and North West Pastoral districts, with conditions expected to develop as a cold front moves across western parts of the state.

According to the Bureau, a low crossing the Great Australian Bight will extend a cold front over western South Australia from early Wednesday morning, before shifting into central parts of the state by the evening. Northwesterly winds ahead of the front are bringing increased moisture and rainfall into the area, with lines of heavy showers and thunderstorms expected to produce areas of heavy rain.

Heavy rainfall, which may lead to flash flooding, is possible for the North West Pastoral from early Wednesday morning, extending to the West Coast later in the morning and the Eyre Peninsula by the afternoon.

Rainfall is forecast to ease below warning thresholds by late Wednesday evening. Locations that may be affected include Port Lincoln, Ceduna, Wudinna, Cleve, Elliston, Tarcoola, Streaky Bay, Cummins, Tumby Bay and Kimba.

The State Emergency Service advises people not to drive, ride or walk through floodwater, to keep clear of creeks and storm drains, and to stay indoors away from windows while conditions are severe.
