SCREENWORKS boosts funding for regional screen creatives

Screenworks has opened applications for its 2027 Career Pathway Programs, with four initiatives designed to help emerging regional NSW creatives take the next step in the screen and games industries.

Supported by Screen NSW, the programs provide funding, professional development and industry connections for early-career writers, directors, producers and games practitioners.

Screenworks CEO Lisa Rose (main picture) said the programs were designed to address the barriers regional creatives can face when accessing industry opportunities.

“Talent is everywhere in regional NSW. What’s often missing is access. The Career Pathway Programs open doors, and we’ve watched past participants walk through them into real screen careers.”

Inside the Writers’ Room will give three early-career screenwriters the opportunity to observe a professional television writers’ room with Werner Film Productions, Lingo Pictures or Ludo Studio.

The Director Pathway and Regional Producer Elevator will each support two participants with $4,000 in professional development funding and $1,500 in travel assistance, an increase on the support provided in 2026.

The Digital Games Pathway will provide one emerging games practitioner with $2,000 in professional development funding and $1,500 in travel support, alongside a one-year Interactive Games & Entertainment Association membership.

Applicants must be current Screenworks members and have lived in regional NSW for at least six months. The organisation is also encouraging applications from people of diverse backgrounds who may not otherwise have access to industry opportunities.

Applications close at 10am AEDT on Tuesday, December 1, 2026, with further details and eligibility criteria available through the Screenworks website HERE.
