Interested in ‘charting a course’ towards a career in the maritime industry but need an opportunity to ‘learn the ropes’? Have a passion for hands-on, practical work and a love for the outdoors? Want to get your ‘sea legs’ with real experience on the water?
The One and All cadetship is the perfect opportunity for enthusiastic individuals to catch some wind in their sails and propel themselves towards a career in this ever-growing industry.
Six lucky cadets will have the opportunity to take part in this 12-month program, where they will develop industry-recognised skills, qualifications, and experience aboard one of Adelaide’s most unique vessels. Commissioned on 5 April 1987, One and All is a 42.68-metre brigantine based on the rig of an 1800s tall ship. Described as “South Australia’s iconic and only authentic sailing tall ship,” a voyage aboard her is a truly unique adventure you won’t find anywhere else in the state.
The cadetship is designed for those looking to launch a career at sea. From fishing and tourism operators to ferries and beyond, South Australia is full of opportunities for those ready to take the helm in a maritime career.
Based in Port Adelaide, cadets will receive robust, practical training and in-class training through the Australian Maritime and Fisheries Academy.
The program includes:
- Certificate II in Maritime Operations (Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal)
- Shipboard Safety Skill Set
- Maritime Radio Operator qualifications
- Senior First Aid and CPR
- Working at Heights certification
- AMSA task book and required sea time
The One and All team say the cadetship is perfect for those who enjoy hands-on, practical work, are comfortable working in a team, can adapt to physically active and outdoor environments, and are motivated to learn and complete formal training.
If this sounds like you, it’s time to get your application in. From all submissions, up to 24 applicants will be selected for the Stage 1 cadetship voyage, running from 16–21 August 2026. From there, 6 lucky cadets will be selected for the full 12-month program.
(Note: you must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident, aged 18 or over, and have completed Year 11 with sound literacy and numeracy skills to be eligible. Sorry Blackbeard and Calico Jack, but you’re not getting on-board until we see those year 11 SACE results first)
