Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s cream-coloured anarkali features silver zari, resham threads and pearl embroidery

“Samantha is wearing a look from our collection called Khamma Ghani, which celebrates traditional textiles and artisanal detailing,” shares designer Sarika Kakrania of the brand. “Its delicate beige colour is inspired from shades of ghee.” Crafted in Chanderi silk, the billowy anarkali’s festive-worthy qualities are enhanced with intricate tonal embroidery, featuring silver, resham and pearl embroidery on the yoke. Akin to the back of a corset, the anarkali features lace-up detailing on both sides of the waist, which can cinch the it further for definition. The anarkali also comes with matching straight pants and a scalloped-hem organza dupatta that further enhances the weightless appeal and versatility of the look.

The appeal of an ensemble, like hers, lies in its styling flexibility. Ruth Prabhu kept the focus on the craftsmanship, accessorising with delicate drop earrings, softly defined smoky eyes and nude lips. And yet, the same anarkali can easily be elevated for a festive gathering or an intimate puja with a pearl choker or statement chandbali earrings, metallic juttis and a richer berry or classic red lipstick.

Few textiles are as practical and elegant as Chanderi during the monsoon season. Often described as a weave as light as air by master artisans, the featherlight fabric is prized for its breathability and subtle sheen. It can transition seamlessly from daytime festivities to evening celebrations, and remain feeling comfortable in humid weather, too. Once reserved for royalties, the fabric has been democratised by Indian designers for everyday wear and simpler occassions.
