South Australia’s builders, developers and construction leaders are coming together today as the State Government pushes ahead with plans to tackle the housing shortage and deliver thousands more homes each year.
The State Government has convened the first-ever Building South Australian Homes Together briefing, bringing together representatives from across the housing and construction industry to strengthen collaboration and help meet the state’s ambitious housing targets.
Hosted by the SA Housing Trust, the sold-out conference will see builders, developers, manufacturers, suppliers, trades, contractors, training providers and industry bodies discuss how government and industry can work together to increase housing supply, support jobs and strengthen investment confidence.
The briefing comes as South Australia continues to outperform national housing targets. According to the latest Australian Bureau of Statistics Building Activity data, 14,130 homes were completed across the state in the year to March 2026, exceeding the government’s target of 13,500 new homes annually.
Minister for Housing and Urban Development Nick Champion said, “Building more homes for South Australians is a whole-of-industry effort. Having the fastest housing growth in the country happens because government and industry are pulling in the same direction.
“To reach our state’s economic potential, we can’t just build 13,500 homes in one year – we need to reach that target year after year after year.
“Today, we’re putting our plans on the table, so industry has the confidence to partner with us and invest in delivering on that target.”
During the briefing, attendees will receive greater visibility into the SA Housing Trust’s forward pipeline, which includes almost 4,000 housing outcomes planned over the next eight years through a range of initiatives, including the state’s Rent to Own scheme.
The event will also highlight opportunities across new housing construction, renewal projects, regional developments, maintenance programs, modern construction methods and supply chains, while outlining procurement pathways and future market opportunities for businesses of all sizes.
The government hopes giving industry a clearer picture of future projects will encourage businesses to invest in apprenticeships, workforce development, equipment, innovation and expanded construction capacity.
SA Housing Trust Chief Executive Julie-Anne Burgess said, “This briefing is about providing industry with confidence, visibility and a clear call to action: prepare, partner, invest and help build the homes South Australians need.
“The SA Housing Trust has a significant forward pipeline of housing activity, and we want businesses of different sizes and capabilities to understand where and how they can participate.”
