‘RUSSH’ editors share the footwear on our wishlist

It’s winter, and our editors are slipping into something more comfortable – shearling-lined, suede-trimmed, or polished leather. From mules to cowboy boots, these are the shoes the RUSSH editors are coveting this season.

On a recent trip to Barcelona, I visited the Alohas flagship to purchase a pair of their Rivet Loafers in Coffee Brown – they had this wonderful worn patina to them that was just perfect. My ultimate dream shoe right now is the Phoebe Philo Club Slipper – one I spotted on Bella Thomas recently which I now can’t seem to get out of my mind. Equally as obsessed with the Scarlet and Sam Noa Wedge (which is much more in my price range).

Although not in my budget, these Bottega Veneta and Miu Miu penny loafers would be staples, especially paired with tailored pants or a short.

For a perfect hybrid of performance luxury, my hands-down choice is the New Balance x Miu Miu suede sneaker.

My go-to shoe style is a slim sneaker, so of course a pair of Onitsuka Tigers is part of my weekly rotation. The SL72-OG in brown and purple is definitely my most-worn shoe – and you can tell, as they are holding on for dear life. I lean into my cowboy roots anytime I wear my saddle boots, but my house shoe of choice in winter is a comfy pair of Uggs, especially when going back home to the Blue Mountains.

My winter shoe wishlist is long this year and I am having trouble narrowing it down. Just like every other person in the RUSSH office, I really want a pair of boots from The Row. I love the knee high ones, and I feel justified as I kept my last pair of knee-high boots for over 10 years. So I know I will treasure these ones too if I buy them. I am obsessed with Golden Goose sneakers at the moment. I really love the whole vibe.

Tony Bianco’s latest bout of ballet flats are all excellent, this merlot pair is particularly tempting. I also love this pair of brown mules, I think they’ll look so chic with a pair of baggy jeans. And no winter shoe wishlist would be complete without the perfect pair of loafers, I adore these Alias Mae ones.

I’m excited about a chunky boot this season. That, and loafers (always).

These CHLOÉ New Bikers buckled textured-leather boots are at the top of my wishlist. Also these Prada platform boots.

In my opinion, YSL loafers are an absolute must-have in ones wardrobe. These Saint Laurent logo-plaque leather loafers are classic, comfortable, and go from office to evening in any season.

While it’s risky wearing white footwear at the best of times, call me dangerous for wanting to pick up these Clover Dove Nappa flats from Tony Bianco. White accessories in winter does something for me. Maybe I need a snow trip… And I’d also like to pick up these Glacier Choc Vintage/Shearling mules from Tony Bianco as well.

I reach for my EMU Platinum Outback boots a lot when it’s cooler. I love that I can wear them outside if I need to race to the clothesline.

I had to invest in my winter footwear a little this year, mostly because I’m an open-toe devotee, so making the seasonal transition to closed shoes is never easy. I think I’ve worn these Tony Bianco loafers almost every day since I bought them. The cut is perfect, they go with everything, and they’re incredibly comfortable. I also love pairing dresses and skirts with a knee-high boot, and this Jil Sander pair has been my go-to for the past couple of years. They’ve served me so well, although they’re definitely due for a visit to the cobbler.

I’ve also been living in my Salomons. I wore them throughout my winter trip to Europe earlier this year, so their cold-weather credentials have already been thoroughly tested. Lastly, these The North Face slippers are one of the best things I own. They’re practical, cosy, and warm enough to slip on for a Pilates class or a quick errand run.

I am a huge fan of winter shoes as I’m a little self conscious about my toes and ankles so any excuse to wear a boot, I’m in. The Danny Combat Boots are forever on my list, I would love to wear them with a short skirt and a long jacket (cue Cake Song). I also am rather partial to a sock boot, like these heavenly Chloé Knotted Knitted Boots or these delicious St Agni Ballet Boots which have a hint of chaussette.

I’m late to the party in terms of investing in loafers, but they’re perfect with jeans and a thick woollen sock. Naturally I’m dreaming of these Miu Miu Suede Loafers. I have a penchant for all things pony, and the Siri Pony Pump would be perfect for evenings or more formal meetings. When I’m seeking ultimate comfort at home, or need to pop round the corner for a croissant (you’re allowed more butter in winter, it’s a fact), then I’ll be sliding on these Toby Mushroom Suede Slip Ons.

I find winter shoes tricky. If I could have permanently-pedicured, sandal-clad feet, I would. But in lieu of that, there are a few staples in my winter shoe wardrobe. My tabis are my newest (and favourite) pair of shoes. I also love a simple ballet flat. Tony Bianco do a great one, as do Massimo Dutti, and I’m also eyeing off this pair from Chanel. An investment, but a timeless one.

My Assembly Label loafers are also great – so comfortable, and very affordable (the cost-per-wear would be $0 at this point).

I think every winter wardrobe needs a pair of pointed, low-heeled boots — nothing looks better under a pair of trousers. I’m loving this pair from Nelson Made. And at the other end of the spectrum, I love this knee-high style from Camilla and Marc. Great with a shorter hemline and tights in winter.

Like the rest of the Internet, I’d do questionable things for a pair of new season CHANEL flats. I have classic ballerinas and wear them all the time (cost per wear, you know). I did just buy a new pair of Havaianas (black, skinny ones) as mine broke, plus some new Salomons. Not needing to do up your laces is a game changer.

I also love a fun shoe! Studio Amelia does some amazing styles – these are classic enough to actually wear but I love the cage detail, especially under a loose fitting pair of jeans. Finally, if I was feeling crazy, I’d buy these Phoebe Philo slides immediately.

I’m in the midst of updating my winter shoe wardrobe, focusing on intentional and practical pieces with an edge. I gravitate towards flats day-to-day – something like these Bottega Veneta loafers, paired with a fun sock or a burgundy flat from MM6 to wear with denim.

A flat boot like this western pair from Golden Goose are great with a long pant, or if I’m craving height and colour, I love this suede olive pair from Alias Mae. For an occasion, these taffeta Saint Laurent pumps are the ultimate dream.

My Winter staple is a pair of knee-high boots, this pair from Bared would be equally at home at work, or at dinner with the girls. These ballet flats from Margiela are also a favourite, and no matter the season, these Chanel slingbacks will always be on my coveted list. It’s hard to argue with the versatility of the mule, hence these ones from St Agni would be a welcome addition to my wardrobe.

The EVERAU Maeve slippers make getting out of bed and to Pilates on a cold winters’ morning that bit more tolerable.
