Rome’s Colosseum has closed to the public to mourn a worker who fell to his death, according to the archaeological park.
The 22-year-old man, Andrea Moretti, specialised in working at altitude on ropes.
He had been installing cabling late on Tuesday for an illumination project when he fell and died inside the Colosseum.

“We are deeply shocked and saddened by the news of the tragic death of Andrea Moretti,” Italy’s Premier Giorgia Meloni said in a statement.
“Dying at the age of 22 is unacceptable – even more so when it happens in the workplace.”
Meloni said she hoped the accident’s cause was clarified as quickly as possible.
Authorities were working to determine the circumstances of the incident, the park’s statement said.
The park said thousands of visitors had entered the Colosseum early on Wednesday before the closure could be implemented.
It said the site would be closed officially after all those visitors leave.
