The Revolution announced some front office news on Monday, with a local figure moving into a more prominent role.

Chris Tierney, a Mass. native and former Revolution left back, will move from his former position as assistant sporting director to the new titles of general manager and chief soccer officer.

Curt Onalfo, previously the Revolution’s sporting director, will now be the senior vice president of soccer operations. In this new role, Onalfo will have a larger focus on the team’s developmental side, with the Pro Pathway, club academy, and Revolution II. Both figures will report to club president Brian Bilello.

Tierney, who was a Revolution player through his entire MLS career from 2008-2018, has been with the front office since 2019. He has been assistant sporting director since 2024.

In his new role, Tierney will now have a more central position in running the first team (though he has been involved in the decision making for several years).

“The Revolution are fortunate to have a club legend of his character, intelligence, and leadership helping shape the team’s future,” Onalfo said of Tierney, adding that his own job switch will allow him a greater capacity to focus more on the team’s development of talent.

Onalfo, who arrived in New England in 2019 as the team’s technical director, helped establish Revs II that same year. He has overseen a major expansion in not only the club’s capacity to develop younger players, but the quality of that development (with figures like Esmir Bajraktarevic showing the legacy of the academy’s growth on the World Cup stage).

“This opportunity is a great honor and an even bigger responsibility, and as a lifelong member of this club, it is one that I take seriously. I’m grateful to Robert and Jonathan Kraft, Brian, and Curt for their trust and guidance over the years, and to all the Revolution fans for their support over the years,” Tierney said, per a news release. “After 11 years as a player and now seven years in the front office, I still enjoy coming to work every day with the singular goal of making my hometown club better and helping us compete for trophies on a consistent basis.”

The Revolution’s 2026 season is currently paused during the World Cup, but will resume on July 22 at Gillette Stadium in a matchup against Toronto FC at 7:30 p.m.
