The Boston Red Sox could see Tanner Houck return to the team at some point this season.
Houck was an All-Star in 2024, but he has since dealt with injuries. On August 18, Houck underwent hybrid reconstruction of his right UCL with a flexor tendon repair, as he was done for the season.
Entering spring training, Houck is still rehabbing, but the right-hander is set to begin throwing next week, according to Red Sox reporter Gabrielle Starr of The Boston Herald.

If Houck can be back for September and a playoff push, it would help bolster the Red Sox’s pitching staff. However, the focus for Houck right now is on his rehab, with the outside chance of him getting back for the stretch run.
Houck went 0-3 with an 8.04 ERA in nine starts last season before his injury. In 2024, when he was an All-Star, he was 9-10 with a 3.12 ERA in 30 starts.
Yet, Boston did address their rotation this offseason, as the Red Sox traded for Sonny Gray and Johan Oviedo and signed Ranger Suarez. Those three join a rotation that already features Garrett Crochet and Brayan Bello to make Boston’s rotatithe on one of best in baseball.
