Rashmika Mandanna’s Itrh sari gleams with antique zardozi, mirror and intricate thread work

At Swadesh’s one-year anniversary celebrations held in Mumbai, Rashmika Mandanna went all out on maximalism in a sari by Itrh, founded by celebrity stylist Mohit Rai and designer Ridhi Bansal. She wore a purple crepe sari inundated with Chanderi brocade buttas across the sari, with the sari border, pallu and the contrasting gold blouse, heavily-embroidered with a myriad craft techniques. For those seeking inspiration for a maximalist festive look, Mandanna’s is the perfect jumping off point.

The V-neck, half-sleeves blouse is fully hand-embroidery in antique gold, with sequins and metallic threadwork in floral and vine patterns. The border carries the same intricate floral gold work, with tiny accents of red scattered all across it. Motifs of birds as well as other flora and fauna made with gold beads, sequins and mirrors feature across the border and on the pallu. The actor paired the look with long earrings attached to kaan chains, finished with clusters of pearl drops. On her wrists, she stacked gold kadas alternating between gold and diamond.

Mandanna’s makeup artist kept her beauty look understated with a small bindi, a nude lip and defined eyes. Her long hair was tied into a low bun.

Purple and gold are definitely having a moment right now. The same colour combination was also seen on Sara Ali Khan’s Manish Malhotra lehenga, Deepika Padjukone and Kriti Sanon’s kurta sets from designer Mayyur Girotra. All experimented with this contrasting palette in different silhouettes and varying degrees of grandiosity.

From the Vogue desk:

“For a festive occasion or to wear this look to a wedding, I would add a choker and choose simpler earrings. I would also accessorise with metal hand bags or clutches that are all the rage these days,” says Ashwini Arun Kumar, Vogue India fashion features editor.
