In a significant political development in Tamil Nadu, S Ramadoss and VK Sasikala have joined hands to form a new alliance, signalling a fresh realignment ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. The alliance plans to field candidates in all 234 constituencies, with polling scheduled in a single phase on April 23.
The move follows internal challenges faced by both leaders. Ramadoss, founder of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), has been at odds with his son Anbumani Ramadoss over control of the party. Despite being the founder, he has been unable to legally reclaim the party symbol or leadership post.

Sasikala, a close aide of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, has also struggled to regain influence within the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). After failing to unify the party, she launched her own outfit, the All India Puratchi Thalaivar Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AIPTMMK).
Sources said the two leaders decided to join forces after a series of discussions, viewing the alliance as a way to rebuild political relevance and consolidate support bases.
The announcement followed a nearly two-hour meeting at Ramadoss’s residence in Thailapuram near Tindivanam in Villupuram district.
“We have entered into an agreement to contest the elections in alliance with AIPTMMK. This alliance has already made a strong impact in Tamil Nadu and has unsettled several opponents. More parties are expected to join us,” Ramadoss told reporters.
