Amid the ongoing Deshaun Watson saga, the Cleveland Browns got RB Quinshon Judkins and LB Carson Schwesinger back in practice Monday.
As the Cleveland Browns look to start head coach Todd Monken’s first season on the right foot, the team may have shot itself in the foot in the process. After the Browns revealed that veteran Deshaun Watson would be the team’s starting quarterback to open the season, there has been quite an uproar from their fans and the football world. Nevertheless, as Cleveland continues their preparation for the 2026 campaign, the team got some good news. Per team beat reporter Scott Petrak on X, formerly Twitter, running back Quinshon Judkins and linebacker Carson Schwesinger were among a group of players who returned to practice Monday.
“Browns RB Quinshon Judkins, LB Carson Schwesinger among players returning to practice in limited roles,” posted Petrak on Monday afternoon.
With Watson confirmed as the starting signal caller, getting Judkins and Schwesinger back should only help the Browns. Judkins is set to begin his sophomore season as Cleveland’s top running back. Meanwhile, Schwesinger comes off a Defensive Rookie of the Year award last fall. The two 2025 second-round picks will hopefully become franchise pillars as this season progresses.
Monken has a tough road to navigate in his first campaign. Watson’s contract has hamstrung the Browns to an extent. However, the pact ends after this season. While Shedeur Sanders, the signal caller Watson beat out for the starting role, has shown flashes, his development should continue from the sidelines. Having Watson under center to open the regular season could work out for both sides. Worst case, his play leads to Sanders or Dillon Gabriel under center. The sooner Monken can figure out the quarterback question, the brighter players like Judkins and Schwesinger could shine by the shores of Lake Erie.
