PSL 2026: Peshawar Zalmi crush Karachi Kings by 159 runs as Kusal Mendis and Babar Azam rewrite records

Peshawar Zalmi produced one of the most emphatic performances of PSL 2026, crushing Karachi Kings by 159 runs in the 17th match at the National Stadium in Karachi on April 9. Zalmi piled up 246 for 3 before bowling Karachi out for just 87 in 16.1 overs, with the margin going down as the heaviest defeat in Pakistan Super League history.

The tone was set by Kusal Mendis and Babar Azam, who put together a stunning 191-run partnership after the early loss of Mohammad Haris. Mendis hammered 109 off 52 balls and brought up the fastest century by a Zalmi batter in PSL history, while Babar remained unbeaten on 87 from 51 balls. Their stand was also recorded as the highest partnership in PSL history, helping Zalmi post their highest-ever total.

If Karachi thought the damage had ended there, Zalmi’s bowlers quickly proved otherwise. David Warner and Muhammad Waseem were both dismissed inside the first seven balls of the chase, and Karachi never recovered from that early collapse. Azam Khan top-scored with 25, but regular wickets kept breaking any momentum as Nahid Rana returned 3 for 7, Iftikhar Ahmed claimed 3 for 9, and Sufiyan Muqeem took 3 for 18.

For Dubai Diaries readers following PSL 2026, this was not just a big win but a statement one. Zalmi looked ruthless with both bat and ball, while Karachi Kings were left with serious questions after a defeat that will also hurt their net run rate. Mendis was named Player of the Match, and rightly so, after delivering an innings that sat right at the heart of a record-breaking night for Peshawar Zalmi.
