PM Modi, Trump hold nearly 40-minute phone conversation, first since US-Iran ceasefire: News agency PTI

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump held a nearly 40-minute phone conversation on Tuesday, marking their first talks since the US-Iran ceasefire and the failed negotiations in Islamabad, which ended without an agreement after nearly 21 hours of discussions.

The call comes at a time of heightened geopolitical activity, with both sides closely watching developments in the Middle East.

Amid the high-level interaction, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor said India-US relations are on a strong footing.

He also indicated that economic engagement could deepen further, saying, “Some big-ticket deals, including on energy, are expected between India and the US in the next few days and weeks.”

Sharing details of the exchange, Gor said Trump told Modi, “I just want you to know we all love you,” reported PTI.

Uncertainty continues over the fragile ceasefire, with ongoing buzz around a possible second round of talks between the United States and Iran.

PM Modi and Trump had previously spoken on February 2 to review progress on a bilateral trade deal, and again on March 24, when they discussed the evolving regional situation.

While details of Tuesday’s conversation were not immediately disclosed, the nearly 40-minute duration suggests substantive discussions between the two leaders.
