Celtics legends Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett have been selected as the enshrinement presenters for Doc Rivers’s upcoming ceremony, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced.
Pierce, Garnett, and Ray Allen formed the “Big Three” that brought the Celtics their 17th championship in 2008. It was the only NBA championship of Rivers’s lengthy career.
Rivers, who played 13 seasons in the NBA and made the 1988 All-Star team, will be inducted to the Hall of Fame as a coach.
His 1,194 wins put him sixth on the all-time NBA coaching wins list. He has more wins than any Celtics coach other than Red Auerbach.
He had coaching stints with five different NBA franchises over the past 27 seasons. He made the playoffs in 21 of those seasons and made two trips to the Finals, both with the Celtics.
Pierce, Allen, and Garnett are all in the Hall of Fame as players. Allen was enshrined in 2018. Garnett was enshrined in 2020. Pierce was enshrined in 2021.
Along with Rivers, the Class of 2026 includes: 1996 USA Basketball Women’s National Team, Joey Crawford [Referee], Mike D’Antoni [Contributor], Elena Delle Donne [Player], Mark Few [Coach], Chamique Holdsclaw [Player], Candace Parker [Player], and Amar’e Stoudemire [Player].
The ceremony will take place at Symphony Hall in Springfield at 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 15.
