The Semiquincentennial celebration will showcase the nation’s birthplace, Philadelphia (Philly250), highlighting its art, culture, and innovations over 250 years through events and attractions like this one at Independence Hall (pictured), exploring America’s past, present, and future.

June is a patriotic warm-up, as July marks America’s landmark 250th anniversary and the shining diamond in a year-long birthday celebration in Philly. All eyes will be on Philadelphia, the nation’s hip and historical birthplace. The ongoing Semiquincentennial in Philadelphia is centered on Independence Day and features Juneteenth as part of the 16-day Wawa Welcome America festival. And don’t forget about the long-awaited arrival of the FIFA World Cup 26, Major League Baseball All-Star Game, and 52 Weeks of Firsts events celebrating still-standing trailblazing venues citywide. Colombia will be the topic of conversation at ‘Diplochat: Colombia.’

Thursday, June 4, 2026. Examine Colombia’s ever-changing role in regional security, economic growth, energy transition, and its relations with the United States at Diplochat: Colombia. Hosted by the World Affairs Council, the in-person discussion will feature H.E. Daniel Garcia-Pena Jaramillo, Ambassador of Colombia in the U.S., followed by a reception. Bell Biv DeVoe To Bring Hip-hop Funk At Odunde

Sunday, June 7 to Sunday, June 14, 2026. The annual Odunde Festival in Philadelphia will be back for the 51st year, with live music, business workshops, happy hours, fitness sessions, and its famous Festival Day stretching over 15 blocks. Celebrate African culture in style at a week of events, including the finale – North America’s largest African-American street festival headlined by 1990’s new jack swing sensations, Bell Biv DeVoe. The popular community festival will open with 365Fitness on June 7th and include African and African Caribbean Business Roundtable workshops on June 11th.  Festival Day on June 14th will feature music, 100 booths of crafts, arts, food, and an ODUNDE Sports Zone competition of on-site media coverage of live FIFA 2026 action. Festival Day is at 23rd and South streets, preceded by a week of activities citywide, including many in Center City.

Anti-slavery Movement To Be Re-enacted

Saturday, June 6, 2026. Check out a dramatization of the historic meeting that occurred at Byberry Hall to protest the Fugitive Slave Law in 1850. It urged local citizens to assist in capturing runaway indentured individuals. Reenactors will portray abolitionists Robert Purvis and Harriet Forten Purvis, who mobilized local Byberry residents to defy the uncivil law. Concert singer Elizabeth Taylor Greenfield will perform.

Monday, June 8, 2025. Be part of a powerful and honest discussion, More Than Adultery: The Spiritual Cost of Desire & Deception. If you’re single, dating, divorced, widowed, or simply seeking a deeper understanding of relationships, this event may be for you. The faith-focused virtual conversation is inspired by the movie, “Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery” (starring Erica Campbell), which airs on the Lifetime Channel two days before, June 6th, at 8 p.m. EST.

The event is hosted by Christian Life and Purpose coach Bulinda Jones and podcaster Dr. Valerie Stancill of Be Heard Ministry and the Speak Up & Speak Loud Podcast. Explore the spiritual, emotional, and relational consequences of compromise, unhealthy attachments, emotional loneliness, trauma bonding, and physical desires. According to the promotional material, the focus will be to “unpack the real issues behind the choices people make, the warning signs we often ignore, and the healing God desires for our lives and relationships.” The session is designed to encourage healing, wisdom, accountability, spiritual growth, and healthy faith-centered relationships.

Virtual Job Workshop To Help Older Adults

Tuesday, June 9, 2026. Senior-level workers navigating the work world will love this online Job Search Seminar for Adults 55 & Older. Seniors who are seeking employment or looking to improve their job-search skills will learn tips and tools to help them thrive in the modern workforce. Get insight from experts such as guest speaker Dr. Alberta Lloyd, of the City of Philadelphia’s Commission on Human Relations, who will address age discrimination issues, as well as representatives from local companies and employment-support community organizations. Kids: Submit Your Art To ‘Everyday Freedom Heroes’ Contest

Saturday, June 13, 2026. The African American Museum in Philadelphia is calling on all young artists to flex their artistic muscles and earn some cash by creating a poster that shows how they embody the spirit of an “Everyday Freedom Hero.” Are heroes born through your acts of kindness, leadership, or by resolving conflicts? Prizes include $500 for Best of Show, and cash awards for first place ($300), second ($200), and third place ($100).

Artwork will be judged on its creativity, historical interpretation, and positive action. The juried art competition will take place June 13, from 3 p.m. EST to 5 p.m. EST. No entry fee; the deadline is June 10, 2026, by 11:59 p.m. EST. Submissions are free and can be delivered in person to the museum (open  Saturdays and Sundays through June 7, from 10 a.m. EST  to 5 p.m. EST), or by email to Loren Landrum: llandrum@aampmuseum.org. Get On The Ball At FIFA World Cup 26 & FIFA FanFestival 

Thursday, June 11 to Sunday, July 19, 2026. Philadelphia will be in the red-white-and-blue spotlight, as Lincoln Financial Field joins the ranks of one of 11 U.S. stadiums hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup soccer tournament. During the Philly leg of the 6-match tournament, enjoy a companion event —the FIFA FanFestival —in East Fairmount Park, with jumbo screens to watch the games, food, live music, parties, and international cultural activities. Up to 20,000 people are expected for each match day at the fan festival.
