Phil Taylor has revealed that the chance to reunite with Adrian Lewis persuaded him to return to competitive darts at 66.
The 16-time world champion will represent England alongside Lewis at the MODUS Super Series International Pairs tournament in Portsmouth from November 23 to 28.
It will be eight years since Taylor stepped away from the professional PDC circuit.
“I’ve been asked plenty of times about coming back, but it would have to be for the right reason,” Taylor said.
“Adrian is one of the very few people I’d come out of retirement to play alongside.”
The announcement reunites the most successful partnership in PDC World Cup of Darts history.
Taylor and Lewis won the title four times for England across six appearances together, establishing an understanding they now hope to revive.

“We’ve got a lot of history together, we know each other’s games inside out and I’m looking forward to getting back up there with him,” Taylor added.
The Power remains the most decorated player darts has produced.
He won 214 professional tournaments, including a record 87 major titles, during a career that transformed the sport.

His final appearance on the PDC circuit came in 2018.
Taylor has played since then, featuring at the World Seniors Darts Championship in 2022, 2023 and 2024.
His decision to enter the MODUS event should therefore be seen as a return for a specific tournament, rather than confirmation of a full-time comeback.
Lewis has also spent time away from the PDC circuit.
The 41-year-old, nicknamed Jackpot, announced a break in April 2023, although he represented England at a previous MODUS International Pairs event alongside Steve Beaton.

A two-time world champion in his own right, Lewis claimed successive titles in 2011 and 2012.
He met Taylor in five PDC major finals and lost them all, but the two proved formidable when they joined forces for England.
“Phil and I have shared some brilliant moments playing together over the years, so to get the chance to do it again is really special,” Lewis said.
“We know what it takes to win as a pair and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do together.”
