Phase One is Done! – Health for Haiti

Greetings from Health for Haiti. We are pleased to announce that the first phase of the school bathroom construction project has been successfully completed!

According to the project engineer’s recommendation, the second phase should begin immediately so the plumbing installation can be carried out and the concrete floor poured. We are currently trying to raise the funds to cover the second phase of the project so the project can continue without delay.

This project has been one the community has listed as a priority for over a year. School enrollment has increased dramatically because families have fled the more dangerous, gang-controlled urban areas for the quieter rural regions of the country, and because our school has developed a reputation for high quality education. With about 300 students and no bathroom facilities, this is an issues of health and dignity for the entire community.

We started planning an working on this project some time ago, but because of last year’s devastating flood in the region we had a slow start. We were thrilled to raise the funds to implement and complete phase one and we are excited to share our progress and plans with you. Below are some comments about the project from members of the community:

“Hello, my name is Josué Dort. I am one of the project construction workers and a parent with children at the school. I was very happy to see this project begin.

This work not only allowed me to participate in the improvement of the school, but it also helped me support my family thanks to the income I earned during the project.

I feel proud to have contributed to work that will serve many children for many years. I thank everyone who made this project possible. I pray that God will continue to bless them and allow more development projects to be carried out for the benefit of the school and the entire community.”

“My name is Cherlie Brutus and I am a member of the Health for Haiti Community Leadership Committee.

It is with great joy that I share a few words about this project. Since the first phase began, I have seen the work carried out with dedication, transparency, and professionalism.

This gives me great hope for the future of our school and our community. I look forward to seeing the second phase of the project begin because I know it will allow the work to continue until our vision becomes a reality. This project is more than just a construction project—it is an investment in our children, our school, and the future of our community.

I would like to sincerely thank all the donors and everyone who has supported this project. Your generosity and confidence in this initiative have been a tremendous encouragement to us. We pray that God will continue to bless you, protect you, and provide you with the resources to keep making a positive difference in the lives of others. Thank you for your invaluable support and commitment to our community.”

“My name is Marie-Milène Saint-Phard, and I am a member of the Health for Haiti Community Leadership Committee.

I am deeply grateful for everything that has already been accomplished through this project. Every day, I pray that God will provide more donors and partners so that this project can be fully completed.

Their generosity will help us continue improving our school and better serve our community. Thank you to everyone who has supported this project. May God bless each one of you.”

“Hello, my name is Lovemika. I am fourteen years old and I am in the 8th grade. I love my school very much and every day I walk two kilometers from my home to the school.  On behalf of my fellow female students, I am asking for donors to support the bathroom project for us, because we need to have privacy for going to the bathroom. If there are some female donors, I am urging you to please support the project because it will keep us healthy and safe and this will impact our future.”

School principal, Pastor Dorcent Berlando, says, “We sincerely thank everyone who has supported this project and encourage you to continue standing with us until its completion. Together, we are improving our school’s facilities for the benefit of all students and staff and the surrounding community.”

Please consider making a donation to support this important initiative that benefits the entire community. No donation is too small! This work is made possible by project partners who are willing to share their own resources with this community in Haiti.

In other news we are happy to report that our largest ever class of ninth graders, thirty four students (!), recently completed their national exams and everyone has returned home safely.

The school administration and the Health for Haiti team warmly congratulate all thirty-four students for their dedication, discipline, and perseverance. We also extend our sincere appreciation to our teachers for their commitment and to the kitchen staff for their excellent care and support throughout this important examination period. We are equally grateful to all parents for their trust, encouragement, and cooperation.

The school administrative staff say, “As we await the official results, we remain confident and continue to place everything in God’s hands.”

Thank you for your support of Health for Haiti!
