Peshawar Zalmi Sign Star Afghani Batter for PSL 11

Peshawar Zalmi have made an early move ahead of the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) season, announcing the signing of Afghanistan wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz before the PSL 2026 player auction.

Zalmi owner Javed Afridi confirmed the development on social media, welcoming Gurbaz to the “Zalmi family” as the franchise begins shaping its squad for PSL 11.

The timing of the announcement strongly suggests Gurbaz is being brought in as the franchise’s direct signing.

Gurbaz is a familiar name for PSL followers. The aggressive top-order batter has already been part of the league, having represented Islamabad United and Multan Sultans in previous seasons. Known for his powerplay hitting and fearless approach, he gives Zalmi a high-impact option at the top, especially in matches where a fast start can decide the contest early.

Gurbaz is currently included in Afghanistan’s T20 World Cup 2026 squad, with the tournament set to begin on February 7.

However, the announcement has received mixed reactions from Zalmi fans, largely due to the ongoing controversy around Afghanistan-Pakistan cricket relations. With some prominent Afghan players, most notably Rashid Khan, linked with decisions to skip the PSL, Gurbaz’s signing has triggered debate.

Meanwhile, PSL 11’s early market has been busy across franchises as well. Lahore Qalandars have signed Bangladeshi pace star Mustafizur Rahman, Karachi Kings have brought in Moeen Ali, and Islamabad United have secured Devon Conway.

The biggest headline, though, came from Sialkot Stallionz, who landed Australia’s Steve Smith in a marquee signing that has instantly raised eyebrows ahead of the auction.
