Pep Guardiola ‘tells friends his dream next job’ after Man City departure

Pep Guardiola has apparently set his sights on the England job after bringing the curtain down on his glittering Manchester City reign.

The Spaniard’s decade-long spell at the Etihad came to an emotional end this week, with Guardiola departing as one of the most decorated managers in football history after delivering 17 major trophies to City.

While speculation continues to swirl around what comes next for the 55-year-old, fresh claims suggest international management could eventually tempt him away from retirement.

Now, it’s sensationally been claimed Guardiola has privately indicated to friends that taking charge of England is a role that would appeal to him in the future.

The suggestion emerged during a discussion on Sky Sports, where Daily Mail journalist Jack Gaughan revealed the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss has spoken positively about the prospect of leading the Three Lions.

“I don’t think we’ll see him in club management, although he is prone to changing his mind quite hastily,” Gaughan said.

“There was an Instagram post from his eldest daughter the other day, while he was doing his send-offs at the Co-op Live and through the streets of Manchester.

“She wasn’t just talking about City, she was talking about football in the past tense, which very much read like a retirement letter to me.

“But he has told friends that he would fancy England in the future, so if things were to align that would be something to look out for.”

Guardiola leaves City having transformed the club into one of the dominant forces of the modern era.

During his time in England, he guided City to six Premier League titles, including an unprecedented run of four consecutive championships.

His success was not limited to English football either.

Before arriving in Manchester, Guardiola won multiple league titles with both Barcelona and Bayern Munich, while also lifting the Champions League trophy on three occasions across his managerial career.

Despite those achievements, one major challenge remains absent from his CV.

Guardiola has never managed at international level and has yet to experience the unique pressures of a World Cup or European Championship campaign.

The possibility of chasing World Cup glory has long been viewed as one of the few remaining ambitions available to a coach who has already conquered club football.

Any move for England, however, appears unlikely in the immediate future.

Current Three Lions boss Thomas Tuchel remains firmly in position after agreeing fresh terms earlier this year, with his contract believed to run until the conclusion of Euro 2028.

England’s focus is instead fixed on this summer’s World Cup, where Tuchel’s side will be aiming to end a 60-year wait for major international silverware.

With qualification secured, attention is already turning towards a tournament that could define the German’s tenure.

Meanwhile, City are preparing for life after Guardiola.

Former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has emerged as the leading candidate to succeed the Spaniard following his departure, potentially ushering in a new era at the Etihad.
