The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reiterated that Pakistan is set to take part in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 as per schedule, but the board will also pursue a strong protest over what it believes is unfair treatment by the ICC and the BCCI.
The update comes after PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi shared details of his meeting with Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, saying the matter is still being handled at the highest level and that a final call is imminent.
In his statement, Naqvi said he had a “productive meeting” with the Prime Minister, briefed him on the ICC issue, and the Prime Minister directed that it should be resolved while keeping all options on the table. Naqvi added that it was agreed the final decision will be taken either on Friday or next Monday.
The issue gained traction after concerns were raised inside Pakistan over what the PCB describes as inconsistent application of rules, particularly after Bangladesh was removed from the tournament following its security concerns about travelling to India, while India previously played a major ICC event without travelling to Pakistan and was accommodated with an alternative arrangement.
Sources have also suggested that the PCB has been weighing both the sporting and financial implications of any drastic move, including the loss of participation-related revenues, while noting the broader commercial impact of high-profile fixtures.
Naqvi is expected to hold a press conference to share the PCB’s position in detail and to announce the final stance once the decision timeline, Friday or next Monday, is reached.
