Roster cuts are ongoing, but the Patriots made room for one more on their roster, completing a trade for Arizona Cardinals running back Corey Kiner.
New England gave up a seventh-round pick in return and released backup running back Hassan Haskins as a direct corresponding move.
Kiner hasn’t seen much regular season action in the NFL since he went undrafted in 2025, but he had a strong preseason with the Cardinals. In four preseason matchups, he recorded 180 rushing yards and two touchdowns, averaging over four yards per carry. He added 28 yards through the air as well.
Kiner also flashed his athleticism with a nifty hurdle to spring himself a few extra yards against the Raiders.
The move will seemingly solidify New England’s running back room, as TreVeyon Henderson and Rhamondre Stevenson are poised to get snaps ahead of Kiner. But Mike Vrabel has emphasized how little depth the Patriots are rolling into this season with, so shoring up their backup running back role crosses a position off that list.
That could also mean that both Jam Miller and Lan Larison become cutdown casualties despite some strong preseason performances of their own. It’s entirely possible though, that even if both Miller and Larison are cut, they rejoin the Patriots via the practice squad after clearing waivers.
New England’s offense is beginning to take shape with just one day before 53-man rosters get finalized. Quarterback, wide receiver, running back and tight end/fullback all seem locked in, and there are at least seven offensive linemen in the group that are virtual roster locks. More work will need to be done, but many of the more difficult decisions lie on the defensive side of the ball.
