Former Patriots 2024 2nd-round pick abruptly retires from NFL
The Patriots have signed defensive tackle Casey Rogers, the team announced.
Rogers, 27, is a 6-foot-4-inch, 300-pound defensive tackle whose most recent NFL stop was in New York as a member of the Giants’ practice squad last year.
He appeared in two games for the Giants in 2024, and he blocked a kick. He also had a brief stint with the Bills in 2025 before the Giants brought him back onto their practice squad.
Rogers played ten games with the United Football League’s DC Defenders this past spring, recording 21 tackles and 1.5 sacks. The Defenders lost to the Louisville Kings in the UFL’s championship game, which is called the United Bowl.
Interior defensive lineman is an area of strength on the Patriots’ roster. Milton Williams and Christian Barmore headline the group, which also includes Cory Durden, Joshua Farmer, Eric Gregory, David Blay, and Jeremiah Pharms Jr.
Rogers, who wears No. 96, was at practice in Foxborough on Monday.
NFL teams are allowed to carry 90 players on the roster during the preseason. They’ll have to trim the roster down to 53 by the end of the preseason.
