Patriots stock watch 3.0: Who is rising, falling after 2 preseason games?
Ann Michael Maye did a sweet thing last Friday, baking cookies with a Massachusetts teen who has been diagnosed with a brain tumor.
Maye’s “Bakemas” videos went viral last winter. Skylar, 16, enjoyed watching them, so she asked to spend time with Maye as her wish from the Make-A-Wish foundation.
“I’ve always loved to cook and bake, and I’ve always loved the Patriots,” Skylar told Patriots.com
“I knew Ann Michael as someone who liked baking and cooking, too – especially during her Bakemas era. I thought it was so cool. Choosing to bake with her was the wish I knew I wanted to do.”
On Friday, Maye arrived at Gillette Stadium with ingredients for gluten-free chocolate chip cookies, a hug for Skylar, and a customized Patriots jersey with the teen’s name on it.
Maye also FaceTimed her husband, Patriots quarterback Drake Maye, while they were tasting the finished product.
“I hope you’re helping her out baking some,” Drake Maye said in a video posted to social media by the Patriots. “Are you heading to the game [Saturday] too?”
Ann-Michael jumped in with another surprise she had forgotten to mention. Skylar had tickets to the Patriots’ preseason game against the Eagles.
“No way!” Skylar said jumping up and down. “That’s so exciting!”
According to Patriots.com, Skylar was diagnosed with a brain tumor last fall. She began radiation therapy in January, a month before the Patriots played in the Super Bowl. She said there were 30 rounds of radiation treatments.
“There are days where I’m definitely more tired than others and I still have fatigue,” Skylar said. “I’m still recovering but I’m definitely doing a lot better now.”
The video also showed Drake Maye autographing Skylar’s jersey on the field before the game. He did not play in the game, but the Patriots beat the Eagles 24-21 on a go-ahead touchdown pass from Behren Morton to Nick DeGennaro. It was the first win of the preseason for the Patriots.
Skylar beamed as she slid a stick of butter into a bowl while baking with Ann Michael. When Ann Michael told the teen that the red bowl they were using functions as a mixer during her videos, Skylar replied: “This is so special.”
Ann Michael said she was surprised to hear about Skylar’s wish. She found a way to make it come true.
“When the idea was brought to me, I was in shock someone would choose that,” Ann Michael said, per ESPN. “It’s such an honor.”
